abstractions

Do you remember the first time you were on a plane? Didn’t you think that flying through a cloud was going to be the best thing ever, that you’d suddenly see these pillowy, soft, flowing clouds right up next to you? Well I’ll have to admit that the whole surrounded by fog thing was a bit of a letdown for me too. Things can appear so drastically different from afar than up close. Just zoom in on any image to 10,000% and you would have never known what you were looking at.

Or then there’s television. Not usually the most enticing visuals, right? (Well except for the NASA channel maybe. Too bad I don’t get it.) My friend Ji Lee has endeavored to change all of that. His new project Abstractor sets out to beautify your TV. Just cut out two pieces of black cardboard (or even tin foil) to cover it and leave a very small slit in between. Cancel cable and just sit there enjoying the stream of pretty pixels.

They sure loved those one letter/number abbreviations in the 90s. Just ask Cajmere, DJ Deeon, or, clearly, Altern8. (Yes, back again. Maybe we’re just incapable of leaving.) And speaking of not being entirely what it seems, there’s a connection between these two tracks. First person to figure it out wins something colorful.

Cajmere - Only 4 U (Blasts From The Past Mix)

DJ Deeon - 2 B Free

(And sorry about the skipping. Guess it makes it sound more authentic though.)
