So how long will it be until we all have chips embedded in our bodies? Well at least there are some people that already do. Take Michael Cochlear, who had an electronic device implanted to regain hearing, or the Baja Beach Club in Spain, where a miniscule chip is embedded to ensure that only the right people can get into the VIP section. You’re kidding me, right?
It seems that this is only the beginning. People like the Transhumanists (I actually know some) are looking to explore the way that consciousness can be expanded—but this time, through technology. Theorists within the movement hypothesize that eventually humankind will expand its abilities so greatly as to no longer be merely human. Instead, we will evolve to be “posthuman.”
Alex Kenji (believe it or not, Italian) explores the path toward posthumanity in his half-human, half-machine electro synth references. No wonder he called the album Cyborg.
(Thanks to Bmoroder for pointing this one out.)
