I'll get back to you with my notation. To tide you over, here's a writeup I did for an arts/humanities independent project I did while at Olin College. Not the most in-depth thing but something to chew on.

I also wrote a couple tracks for it, the second one isn't too great but you can check out the first one as "Untitled" at my long-forgotten MySpace artist page.

I found your blog a couple days ago and I love it so far.

I have been living in 1998 Paris for the last 3 years or so after discovering the Crydamoure "Waves" compilations. And listening to Radio FG for the last 6 years continuously as a faux Frenchie.

Here's a fun exercise: Take Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" and notate it. I used different shapes for the various parts of the samples and wrote the lyrics in the lines between. You'll see how the bassline changes in groups of three layered on top of the lyrics in the usual groups of four, meaning that the alternate bass line hits on different vocals each time. A subtle yet charming way to transcend the repetition.

Also, the sheer beauty of the eighth bass drum hit in the little breakdown floors me every time. They knew to muffle it ever so slightly to heighten anticipation. I picture Thomas Bangalter with a knob, giving it just a nudge as his head beats to the music while they recorded it.
