The way different language can interpret the same words or sounds is pretty fascinating. For example, in Portuguese, people add an “e” sound to the end of many words, an English “d” often turns into into a “g”, an “r” to an “h,” and a “t” can mean the use of a “ch” sound. So you might be listening to “hippie hoppie” and “indie hockie” on your “ipodgie” while drinking “coca lietch.”

Onomatopoeia poses a similarly intriguing insight into how language and sound interact. Different languages have entirely different ways of interpreting and pronouncing the same sounds. For example, the sound of a dog barking can be as diverse as “woof woof” in English, “wan” in Japanese, “ouaf” in French, “bub bub” in Catalan, “gavvv” in Russian, and “au au” in Portuguese.

Yet sometimes sound can transcend linguistic barriers, and I would say that Gui Boratto accomplishes this quite beautifully. The Brazilian minimal techno estrela (with a new album out soon) hits the nail on the head yet again with this Tube & Berger remix, or should I say, hemixie.
