Quasars, first discovered less than 50 years ago, are enormously powerful astronomical objects emitting galaxy-like levels of energy from a highly concentrated regions the size of solar systems. (Yes, solar systems are far smaller than galaxies.) Still not very well understood today, quasars are thought to release energy amounting to the output of hundreds of galaxies combined. The light produced by some quasars is more than that of one trillion suns. And recently, scientists discovered the first triple quasar, previously thought to be statistically impossible.

And if yesterday was about dreamhouse, today is about cosmic house. The Audience is one of my favorite Herbert songs in the universe, and I admittedly was a bit skeptical when I first heard these dark, galactic elements combined with the familiar, airy vocals. Yet despite the apparent darkness, Martinez’s white label edit has an underlying luminous quality—just like the black hole behind the quasar.
